Trip to venice: Part 2

Well..i knew it..
whenever i get to airport early the flight gets delayed. this time it was not "delayed" sort of..but it was supposed to leave by 5'0 in the morning and it took off at 6..
i was next to a paaji! no wonder people know sikhs better as representative of india. we was too inquisitive..what am i doing, where am I going..then when he got to know that i am a doctor and i do brain research..all sorts of questions ranging from psychiatry, psychology, osteoarthritis, multivitamin consumption and then tales of doctors asking him to to bring porno magazines from amsterdam!!..i stopped interacting with him them!
he persisted however, and i came to know that he is a sailor and going to amsterdam. in fact he was not happy that i "did not" ask him about what he is and his life questions! somehow i slept off in between his dialogues and never ending queries.
turkish airlines is a huge one and was almost packed till istanbul. we got veg dishes to eat and coffee (horrible, but was strong enough..was not even close to a black coffee)..and the air hostess seemed to be in a big hurry all the time!
one more bad thing was i was not next to the window and paaji wanted to close it all the time..i missed the view from it wanted to see some areas of middle east at least.

at last the plane landed in istanbul at about 12.40 and it was a smooth landing..i was surprised that people greet such smooth landing by clapping..actually almost all passengers were clapping..and our truely, paaji explained me the funda..and he greeted me good bye and he did not follow me :)the weather was cool and windy..nice that i had my jacket with me.
i went to transit area and the receptionist there panicked looking at my ticket! she said that i am toooooo late for the venice flight and it is about to get off! she made me run to counter number 310 which is about half a kilometer up and down the istanbul airport..my security check-in went smooth and a pretty turkish girl explained me that they are still waiting for other venice passangers! flight again was about 30 minutes late :)
here i was in seat 4B right behind the business class..hardly the plane was full..to say it was about 20-30% full and almost all were foreigners.
I had problems in choosing the menu for lunch..i told the air hostess that no meat, no chicken, no beef, no pork, no non veg...she said nothing exists of that sort!
then i narrowed down to bread and coffee and turkish dry red wine (180mL)..i gulped all of them and started looking out of the window..
sarajevo passed by then the adriatic sea and then venice..
actually when plane was about to enter venice area..it was too cloudy. cloud was in layers..plane passed through at least 4 layers of cloud(all of different TEXTURE so to say!) and finally the blue sea with 2-3 ships..that was the intro.
slowly the color of the water changed from deep blue to muddy to greenish blue..algae have bloomed like crazy in certain parts of the lagoon.
touch down was fast and passport check in was cool. baggage arrived and i headed out to buy the 7 day venice pass and alilaguna airport link out. alilaguna took a painful 1.20 minutes (very slow..felt like giving a adrenaline shot to the driver..later realized that they are supposed to go very slow..for faster transport there is another water taxi which charges double). this itself was 13 euros...money goes so fast in venice. 2 euros were saved by buying a return ticket (thanks to deepti) and i came to know that this return ticket is valid for 30 days.

once i reached S.Zaccharia i could easily get to Zitelle and to the youth hostel. receptionist was very friendly and he has even visited india several times. was speaking very kindly of Sonia Gandhi! says she does not come to italy anymore after the death of her parents and grand parents..but italians are proud of her..well we are also proud that its because of her Congress party of india is one otherwise it would have broken into many pieces!
youth hostel is super cool..these people have all possible basic needs which at least from Indian students' point of view are luxury! however, they waste like crazy but charge also like that. Our indian YHA did not send me the final card so got to give some ID with temporary YHA card to get some discount.
Very cheap Wi-FI 2.5 euros for 12 hours is another part of luxury especially when u have a laptop at your disposal!
contacted home and wife and went to roam around venice.

Venice is a beautiful city..everything is beautiful here..water, lagoon, walls, buildings, garbage, sky. Foreigners are especially outstandingly beautiful and not-ignorable! cant believe how much genetics has played a part here..would be an interesting area to work out.
went around San Marco, San Zaccharia, Rialto, Piazzarella Roma. had a veg sandwich. my palate is paining by chewing this italian bread! its hard..i dont know this is the kind we have but surely they have some 100+ types of bread i guess!
art is everywhere, creativity is seen in almost all parts of this city, crafwork is marvellous and we should not get wife here for shopping! otherwise another idea is "we do some sight seeing" ;) and she does some shopping!..gurgaon mall hifi stalls are no where compared to venice..in such a small area i found a pair of shoes for 500 euros!..the building was not even close to a tea shop in india!
after a long day..i got to sleep early today..i have to do a check trip to san servalo tomorrow and start with the conference thingy.
another thing i found out here we can use India debit card (i withdrew 100 euros i was charged 168 rupees service charge from visa)..but it was cool sort of..ATM kiosks are everywhere in San Marco area.
now that i had some money extra..i took the liberty of going to a shop and ordering pizza margharetta..i could not eat it! hard! but got it packed and going to eat till the last euro! because any amount of money is less in venice..

Trip to venice-Part One

Place: IGI airport, Delhi.
As usual I was late for packing..but interestingly i left NBRC on time..to say exactly at 24:00k. Boss was already pissed off, I could not give the data he wanted. At last he had a look at my poster printout and did not comment..that was more than I expected..
Driver ajit was as usual before time..I wonder how these people :) can do this! Was running around till last minute. some gel extraction in lab, print outs. With lots of worries still in my head, i jumped on to ajits' car and started calling parents, wife ans sister that I have left. I am sure they were happy, because this time i left on time.
I have a record actually, I alone always was late for almost any kind of transport. I missed a flight once and waited at airport overnight to catch the first flight next day :) that was cool actually, i bought "India after Gandhi" by R Guha. It is still a nice read.
Airlines and check-in did not object to my poster holder. However, customs people suck! One guy was wondering how did i manage to get inside without immigration clearence, I told him, no one asked me to :0 wait..another one exactly when i stood before him told me that he wanted to go for tea-at 1.30 in night. Another one asked me detail questions on epilepsy :)..was feeling like a viva..but he did not however create troubles..and I got the stamp required.
When I got pass the security check and was asked to wait at gate number 6 for the airlines, I saw airtel-world calling card. (my friend tells me now that its not that good), however i want to justify my spending by assuring myself that i would utilize it fully (rate is 9 rupees per call)..well the bad thing here was if u pay by indian rupee it is 500 and he asked me 10 euros..thats woffing 100 bucks more..infact later I found out that i overpaid 1.5 euros..thats like 90 rupees..but its okay now..I know how quickly i can lose money..will be careful onwards..I have started keeping a spending details.
My suggestion..before checking in please get some cash (say 1000 rupees or so) there is no ATM after security check and if u dont have indian currency..u have to pay through euros..which is stupidity and blatantly wrong. In India after security check in you cant get INR..totally unaccetable..
Also i dont understand why cant we pay by debit card at Forex..u need cash there..
I am feeling hungry now but I did have dinner. May be because i am awake and using free internet by airtel at IGI :)
So..I am waiting here for the flight which is supposed to depart by 5 AM today..so i guess i will do time pass for another 1 hour and probably they will start boarding procedures.

Next post..if i get free wifi..then from Istanbul..otherwise paid wifi at Venice-YHA Ostello Gioventu :)

Hi, I came across this..

First thing I remember is your laughter. The way you used to turn your head this way and that, adjusting your long hair. A smile and a pose for the photograph. Your confusions and my explanations but you used to do your own thing, but approach me again. I still remember your scent, long fingers and soft toes.
How to say, how much I miss you. Its an irony. Like fuel and fire. Need for both but no eternal harmony. Like campfire and funeral pyre.
Dark may it sound but those who burn feel the warmth before death.

Next thing I remember is your warm hug, never felt that cozy again. Sleep in your lap was the only thing I wanted then. Time runs so fast. Every time I walk by the white flowers on campus, a bunch of them wish there was someone to smell them, appreciate them, hold them and touch. Every time I walk by nursery pots, they ask me for a sampling, pour some water and make it ready. Cactus to Orchid, flower to tree, dance to music, grapes to wine, grill to popcorn, movies to real life drama. We spent time like we knew it was going to end soon.

Actually, you were the first person I could really fall in love with. Total madness. I really felt like what is it as being possessed by someone. Possessiveness, insecurity crept in, so called rational decision became the ultimate priority. How much I miss myself actually. Time machine looks like a great concept now, after my mistakes. But I know, I had to let you go and be in pain. Was I a coward or hypocrite or spineless or selfish or just crazy?

When will I stop thinking about you? When will I stop thinking what would you have done when I am feeling really good and want to share it with just you? Do I really get a chance again to meet you and say I really missed you? I let you control me but then I broke off. I know you control whats in the future. Who can catch and latch up the air? Its volatile and sensuous, fast paced. It just triggers and off it goes. True to your stars, I am still pregnant with your thoughts which is unfair.

Long chats, small talks, small quarrels and big battles I saw all with you. Betrayal, liking, love and hate I had all with you. But I still remember you. "Bloody Hell", I know you don't like it. I also know you liked dresses, socks and your lip balm and the way you used to perfect the bed-sheeting.

When I am really alone and my mind is blank, only thing that comes to my memory is one morning. As I got up from sleep and opened my eyes, I saw your head on my chest, you were asleep, in deep sleep. Your face was calm and breathing, slow. All I did was to caress your hair and have a look at your face; bliss. I miss this every time I am alone.

I had a really good time with you. I don't know to whom I am grateful and to whom I am accountable. I miss you.

World is very very sarcastic, narcissistic and at the same time mosaic. Faith, love, betrayal all intervened.
Over past few days I was reading about Georgia-Russia conflict, Lebanon-Israel-Syria-PLO conflicts..Its all murky, no one is ideal, no one has one particular moral set of values, it is all according to the circumstances. So it really matters who is leading because it is they who make rules (convenient to them). Very alarmingly evolutionary!!

But to pick out those which matter justly is what we need to do. Who decides whats right? Unbiased one..hardly in good number.

Welcome to Leaderless world..or rather just like our superspecialization we have superspecialized leaders.

It is easy to be pessimistic and leave this life as soon as possible..but I will be missing out whats to be human..the pain, love and other emotions, more over how they can be twisted, nationalized, marketted which I think is unique to humans :)

Happy new year to all. Let your dreams come true if they are righteous.

I am starting this new year with a Movie :) a documentary rather "man on wire" and hope to get inspired and lead a positive life.

A good script gone bad because of overacting..it was okay sort of comedy but was really irritating to see lot of overacting by Tushar Kapoor and Arshad Varshi et al. Ajay Devgan and Kareen kapoor roles were good and good job. Nice music and okay special effects. Overall timepass (not good though) movie.

With Mr. Barack Obama becoming the 44th president of US of A, I feel really elated for the first time in adult life :)
He represents the culmination of all races! His mother having a mixture of native american, british and irish ancestry, his father an african, step father an asian and wife an african-american, high profile education and eagerness to work for the downtrodden has taken this genius to the highest level on this Earth. He is a gifted orator and I hope that he gets all the power and good wishes from his supporters (including me :)) to lead US of A and hence the world to a new political era which respects life, culture and religion along with uplifting science and spiritualism. A great challenge ahead but the decision made by north american people shows firmly that "it is still the place where dreams can come true"!
My strong anti-american sentiments were predominantly political and i believe BO will change it forever!

Daniel again at his best!..but the true character i feel in the movie is his mother, very strong and dedicated character..no wonder she won a best supporting actor oscar award for that..it is such a beautiful and well carved character..an ideal mother who just believes in her son..well..see the movie..u will find out..
but there is so much of contradiction in real life..Christy Brown's wife reportedly did not take care of him in later days..he resorted to drinking and smoking heavily. And also..here is a quote by Brenda who played Christy's mother in the movie..
"(on her character in Casualty) Megan was the mother we all want, full of love and understanding, I'm none of that, I'm not a mother and never will be and I wasn't even a very good wife, I'm not even a good nurse to my father now he's old and frail. I'm much more rebellious that Megan. I couldn't do her job ever. Just go down to the hospital and watch what they do for an eight of the salary I earned pretending to be a nurse. It makes you blush. You break your heart with people being kicked in the teeth by life. I couldn't handle it, I'd be reduced to tears"..oh God..Movie and Life are so so different...

Health system is changing in India. We are hearing cry of public-private partnerships. People not able to afford private hospitals and sub standard services of government hospitals. Even in government hospitals we are asked to get tests done from outside pathlabs...i know we are just starting and it wont take time to get as quickly as where USA the big brother has reached. This movie is really Sick and an Eye opener..day by day I am feel nauseated soon as i hear about america. Only thing that keeps me to respect this country is its academic excellence and technical advance..but this country is poor despite of all the knowledge it has. Get well soon.

This was the first foreign language movie I watched in my life..bingo start i must say. Just reinforces that transmitting human emotions needs no language aid. Superbly made and wonderfully acted "father and son". A must watch for all. I read a review by someone on this;

Ronnie Screwvala walked the red carpet at the glitzy Dubai International Film Festival in December with Oliver Stone and Richard Gere. Westerners might have wondered who he was and why he deserved the company of two Hollywood luminaries, but anyone familiar with the Indian film industry would have understood.

Screwvala, one of the leading movie producers in India, is bringing Hollywood-style filmmaking to the subcontinent. And U.S. moviemakers, desperate for new opportunities, want a piece of the action.

India's teeming film industry, known as Bollywood, is extraordinarily prolific. Indian filmmakers churn out 1,000 movies each year. Yet the industry grossed just $1.5 billion in 2005, and only a handful of movies made it to first-run theaters overseas. Compare that with Hollywood, which pumped out 563 movies that year and made more than $18 billion at the box office, including $9.6 billion from international distribution.

Why isn't Bollywood making more money?

That question is the driving force behind Screwvala's company, UTV Software Communications. "Broadcasting [in multiple channels] started here in 1992, and it's already a $4 billion business," says the 49-year-old entrepreneur. "Yet this 100-year-old industry is still less than $2 billion. We have to grow."

His solution is to revolutionize Bollywood - blow up the business model and replace it with traditional studio rules.

It's a huge job. Bollywood has always been a haphazard affair. Half a dozen prominent families controlled it, but they weren't very businesslike. Movies started shooting with no scripts and little money. Stars disappeared midshoot for weeks at a time to vacation, go home, or work on another movie. Theater owners underreported ticket sales to avoid sharing revenue with producers. It was nearly impossible to figure out whether a movie had made money and, if so, how much.

In addition, Indian story lines did not appeal to many outside the country. To the Western eye, Bollywood movies were chaotic, a surreal combination of Sylvester Stallone and Busby Berkeley musicals. In a typical plot, the hero sang, danced, fought bad guys, got the girl, found his long lost brother, and wept on his mother's deathbed - for at least three hours.

Screwvala broke into Bollywood in the late '90s, teaming up with anyone willing to work by his rules. UTV has produced a dozen movies with all the earmarks of professional filmmaking: budgets, marketing and distribution plans, real preproduction, and three-month shoots.

The company distributes them worldwide and milks Hollywood-style ancillary revenue, from product placement to soundtrack rights and video-on-demand. Screwvala has also cut the running times and dumped the disorganized and stale story lines. His hit Rang de Basanti (The Colors of Spring) tells the story of India's disaffected urban youth; it also made more than $2 million in the United States.

"We're breaking the mold," Screwvala says, comparing his experience to the days when Star Wars and other independent films paved the way for new genres in Hollywood.

Screwvala likes pioneering. The former game show host started his business career walking around Mumbai, asking apartment dwellers to try a newfangled gadget called a remote control. He got Indians to give up their single-channel, government-run television and brought cable to the country in the 1980s. He used the money from that to get into television production, making a steady stream of animated cartoons that attracted U.S. producers looking to outsource their own animation.

But all the while, he had movies on the brain. "Indians have always been voracious movie viewers," he says. "That's in our DNA. But we're as strong in commerce as we are in creative. It seemed to me that there was a huge opportunity here."

He was right. Now U.S. filmmakers, their revenue streams threatened by videogames, the Internet, and video-on-demand, knock on his door. This year, along with his Indian films, he's partnering with Sony Pic (Charts)tures and Fox Searchlight on movies starring Chris Rock and Will Smith, as well as an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri's novel The Namesake. News Corp (Charts). and Disney (Charts) bought stakes in UTV last year.

And Screwvala's plan is starting to bear fruit. In 2005, UTV took in $52 million -$32 million of it from movies - and turned a modest profit. That made it the second-largest producer in India, counting box office and ancillary revenue, a meteoric rise for an industry newcomer.

And its "new" business practices are spurring changes at competing studios. Contracts, budgets, and balance sheets are more common. So are shooting schedules, bigger marketing budgets, and the exploitation of ancillary revenue. According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, Indian films will generate $2.3 billion by 2010.

UTV has many other ventures, including 15 straight-to-DVD movies, an animated feature co-produced with a U.S. company, and a U.S. television series. But Screwvala has yet to reach his ultimate goal. "We have a good relationship with Disney," he says. "I'm hoping it can help us get some of our films into Wal-Mart."

I thought i should write something new than my stupid poetry!
Here is my first post!

-Hidden Poet-Copy Cat-Gifted Singer-

I heard Jannat song "Zara Se"..great song...no one can not notice it. Its sung by Kay Kay written by Sayeed Qadri and music director being Pritam.
Well pritam...infamously known as copy cat has made his presence felt to us. How did i miss kay kay? and who is this sayeed quadri? his language is quite familiar to me..so i decided to do some googleing (:) is there anything call grammatical neologism? just like Bangalored!)

Chod aye hum..of Machis good song though but i did not like it..but i missed this great singer by that time..i have never heard that song completely..some how the music was not appealing (i have not yet started complimenting pritam!) but i should congratulate vishal bharadwaj for great music like that of Satya (kallu mama), omkara (o sathi re! what a song!) and U, me aur Hum (title song..quite (:) nice)...
I like RockFord movie but not Yaaron song..again music was not catchy! well Shankar Ehsaan Loy...masters need not masterpieces everytime. :) helping my ego...well Dil Chahta Hein, Taare Zameen Par were few of masterpieces by them..
O hum dum was okay because i like the tamil version better..no comments on Rehman!
many flop songs..many i did not like..then came Tu Hi Meri Shab hai..I did not miss Kay Kay here but I missed Sayeed Qadri..well..this film was in bbc news for wrong reasons...Abu Salem having problems with that movie being based on him..what people missed for the first was how pritam improvised the song Sacral Nirvana by Oliver Shanti and gave people the voice they missed (people like me)..
well now again
then life in a metro..alvida and Oh meri jaan good ones..i did not miss it..but then he improvised oh meri jaan chorus and gave us the catchy interval chorus of Zara se..
but what i really feel bad is we identify singers at first or second go..but it took me quite a long time to get good song writer sayeed qadri..his first film what Dhat Tere ki(1983)..well i never heard it..but behold Asha bhonsle was one of the singers..He started his second life from Jism..and entry level got him a Zee Cine award for best lyricist..i some how feel that Mahesh Bhatt gave him a break (pooja bhat was the producer and it was written by Mahesh Bhatt, Saxena was the director)..so this poet has future...
well the combo of Kaykay-Pritam-Sayeed rocks!!! i look forward to this combo again...yup when u want good things..u gotta lose others..so..pritam inevitably comes with his copies..but yup..his improvisation is his own..
